Dr Paul Lu is interested in all aspects of high-performance computing, especially parallel and distributed systems. He has a continuing interest in parallel algorithms for basic problems in computing science, such as sorting, searching, and sequence alignment. For example, he is working on parallel algorithms in bioinformatics for the multiple sequence alignment problem. Another current research focus is systems software for parallel and distributed computing, including wide-area metacomputing and computational grids. Dr Lu has developed the Aurora distributed shared data system and its unique approach to providing flexibility in optimizing data communication. He is also working on operating systems issues with gigabit networks, such as reducing the interrupt and data movement overheads in communication protocols.
